KALIMA is a semi-academic journal exploring Islamic thought through rigorous inquiry and interdisciplinary dialogue. Rooted in the symbolic depth of its name, it bridges classical scholarship with contemporary academic discourse in theology, philosophy, ethics, and the humanities.

Kalima is a semi-academic online journal dedicated to fostering rigorous inquiry and reflective scholarship in Islamic studies. Its name, drawn from Arabic for “word,” carries deep resonance in Islamic and broader Abrahamic traditions, where it signifies divine speech, revelation, the origin of creation, and the testimony of faith. In the Qur’an, even Jesus is described as kalimatun minhu (“a word from Him”). Together, these associations affirm the generative and transformative power of kalima. Rooted in this rich theological and spiritual symbolism, Kalima embodies a commitment to meaningful expression, critical dialogue, and intellectual depth. Published by Respect Graduate School, the journal provides a platform for the exploration of Islamic thought, aiming to bridge the enduring legacy of classical scholarship with the methodological and analytical tools of contemporary academic discourse.

Our mission is to cultivate a space where interdisciplinary research, theological reflection, and culturally engaged scholarship intersect in intellectually and spiritually meaningful ways. By publishing contributions that span theology, philosophy, history, ethics, the arts, and the social sciences, Kalima promotes scholarly dialogue that is both academically grounded and accessible to a broad, informed readership.

Our vision is for Kalima to serve as a leading venue for thoughtful and responsible engagement with the Islamic tradition. We welcome submissions that demonstrate analytical depth, originality, and a spirit of constructive inquiry. In keeping with the ethos of its name, Kalima affirms the transformative power of language as a means of advancing both academic understanding and spiritual insight.

We invite scholars, educators, students, and public intellectuals to explore the journal, engage with the ideas it presents, and contribute to the evolving conversation on Islam’s intellectual and cultural legacy in the modern world.
